Eventful week

Yikes, we had quite an eventful week.  Our dog had a tooth extracted last Thursday.  She was doing great, and she was finally feeling up for a long walk around the neighborhood.  Monday after work we went for our long walk, and right at the end, almost back to our house, Milosh went up to one house’s fence to sniff out the dogs on the other side. She ran ahead a little bit and stuck her nose in the gap at the fence gate. There was growling, she yipped, and I yanked her back.  Then there was lots of blood.  Of course, the vet was closed so we had to take her to the emergency vet.  She ended up with a 2-inch laceration on her chin, but the vet said her stitch in her mouth from her extraction was fine. The emergency vet was able to clean up her chin and glue it because its in a bad place to stitch, gave us some antibiotics and sent us home.

Milosh was clearly uncomfortable the rest of the evening and couldn’t get settled.  When we went to bed, she slept for about an hour and half before she started moaning and whining.  I slept with her in the guest room, and used about a whole roll of paper towels because her mouth would not stop bleeding all night.  After getting about 2 hours of sleep, I was the first one at the vet when they opened at 7:30. They ended up keeping her for the day, put her under, and re-stitched her gums. She’s happy and feeling much better now, but we’re watching her closely to make sure she doesn’t re-injure herself!

Yesterday, we went to the Cape Fear Craft and Cuisine – it is a beer and food pairing event that showcases 25 local chefs/restaurants with 25 NC breweries.  Super awesome event. It is the second year we have gone, and it was amazing (Drooling emoji) – even better than last year. There’s so much delicious food! We also discovered a delicious Blackbeer and Eldererry Imperial Hops kombucha beer with 10% ABV from Panacea Brewing Co.  They have a taproom, so I highly recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the Wilmington area!

Anyway, this week’s recipes include:

Swedish meatballs (very much NOT paleo)
Ranch pork and roasted veggies
BBQ chicken and sweet potato “fries”
Deconstructed cheeseburger with a side of slaw
kielbasa with cauliflower and carrots
